Thai cabinet cancels May 5th holiday, adds two new holidays

Coronation Day, which falls on May 5th, is no longer a public holiday in Thailand, according to Danish-Thai Chamber of Commerce.

This means that people working for Thai companies will still have to go to work.

Coronation Day celebrates the day when King Bhumibol Adulyadej was crowned Rama IX of Thailand in the Grand Palace.

On the other hand, the cabinet has added two new holidays for people living in Thailand to enjoy:

  • 28 July, the birthday of Thailand’s current monarch King Vajiralongkorn.
  • 13 October, the date King Bhumibol Adulyadej passed away, according to Matichon.
