Thailand joins Nordic nations on list of world’s most liveable countries

Thailand has ranked 28th in U.S. News & World Report’s 2026 Best Countries ranking and is included in Architectural Digest’s list of 20 design-focused countries considered among the best places to live.

The selection is based on US News & World Report’s “Best Countries” ranking, combined with other quality-of-life assessments, including Astons’ 2026 index, Global Citizen Solutions’ list of best countries to live in, and World Population Review’s rankings.

Nordic countries rank higher

According to the assessment, countries were chosen for strengths in architecture, urban planning and design culture.

Thailand appears on the list alongside several Nordic countries, including Denmark, Sweden and Finland. Sweden is placed 6th, Denmark 10th, and Finland 20th.

According to Architectural Digest, Thailand’s appeal includes its comparatively low cost of living and design scene, with Bangkok recognised as a UNESCO City of Design. The capital hosts events such as Bangkok Design Week and ASA Architect Expo.

Architectural Digest does not assign a separate ranking within its top 20 selection but follows the order of the U.S. News list.
