
On November 30, Her Majesty Queen Suthida visited the “2024 Bangkok World Para Ice Hockey Championships C-Pool” held at the Thailand International Ice Hockey Arena. The event, hosted by the Sports Association for the Disabled in Thailand under royal patronage, featured competitors from several nations, including teams from Finland, Austria, Australia, and Thailand.

During her visit, the Queen expressed her admiration for the athletes and the spirit of competition. She emphasized the significance of adaptive sports in promoting inclusivity and awareness about the capabilities of individuals with disabilities. The tournament, which ran from November 20 to 30, welcomed teams eager to earn points toward ranking in preparation for the 2026 Winter Paralympic Games in Milan, Italy.
In the finals, Thailand faced off against Finland in a tightly contested match consisting of three periods, each lasting 15 minutes. The Thai para ice hockey team exhibited relentless offensive efforts throughout the game but was unable to score. The first and second periods concluded in a 0-0 tie.
However in the final period, the Finnish team surged forward and managed to score the first goal, ultimately claiming victory with a score of 1-0.
As part of the event, Thailand’s Queen awarded the championship trophy to the Finnish team, which will advance to compete in qualifying rounds for future tournaments. Furthermore her Majesty’s continued support for ice hockey highlights the importance of sports in fostering community and national pride.
The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) acknowledged the Queen’s contributions by presenting her with a commemorative plaque, honoring her as the first honorary female ice hockey ambassador.
