TUI brings stranded Danish tourists home from Thailand and Maldives

TUI is bringing stranded Danish tourists home from Thailand and the Maldives after Middle East airspace closures disrupted flights.

Several Danish tourists stranded in Thailand and the Maldives are now being brought back to Denmark by travel company TUI. The travellers were affected after conflict in the Middle East disrupted planned flight routes, JyskeVestkysten reports.

According to TUI, many of the affected tourists had been due to transit through the Middle East on their journey home. With large parts of the region’s airspace currently closed, those routes could no longer be used.

TUI said Danish travellers in the Maldives were first flown to Frankfurt, where the airline arranged overnight accommodation before their onward journey to Denmark. The company has also worked to get stranded tourists in Thailand on their way home.

For the Thailand cases, TUI said it had been in contact with Denmark’s Foreign Ministry and local Thai authorities to secure the approvals needed to bring as many guests home as possible. The company noted that travellers who arrived in Thailand on scheduled flights are generally not allowed to leave on charter flights.

TUI said its main priority is to get affected guests back to Europe first, as this makes the final journey to Denmark much easier to arrange.
