Drama at sea: Norwegian Sun drops Vietnam

Norwegian Sun dropped its Vietnam stop after cargo congestion at Phu My made the port unavailable.

Norwegian Cruise Line has cancelled Norwegian Sun’s planned stop at Phu My in southern Vietnam on 5 March. The ship was instead redirected to Sihanoukville in Cambodia during its current two-week sailing between Taiwan and Singapore.

The cruise line told passengers that the reserved berth at Phu My was no longer available. According to the information given onboard, heavy cargo congestion and commercial shipping movements at the port meant there was no suitable window for safe passenger operations.

Phu My was the only scheduled stop in Vietnam on this voyage. That means Vietnam was removed entirely from the itinerary for these passengers.

Guests who had booked shore excursions through Norwegian Cruise Line for Ho Chi Minh City were informed that their tours would be cancelled automatically. Refunds were to be credited to their onboard accounts.

To replace the cancelled Vietnam call, the cruise line added Sihanoukville in Cambodia as a new port stop. The itinerary was changed while the ship was already underway.

The two-week voyage is sailing between Taiwan and Singapore and includes several stops across East and Southeast Asia.
