The police arrested two individuals suspected of flying a drone within the restricted airspace over central Oslo on Thursday afternoon. Both arrested individuals are Chinese nationals in their late 30s, according to operations leader Bjarne Pedersen, who spoke to NTB around 5 PM.

Recently, authorities have seen a rise in arrests of drone pilots in Oslo. On Christmas Day, police apprehended two Chinese drone pilots for flying in the same no-fly zone, but the motives behind their actions remain unclear.
Additionally, the police arrested two other Chinese drone pilots on Christmas Eve for operating a drone in central Oslo. Pedersen confirms that he does not know if the two arrested on Thursday are linked to those previous incidents, but he emphasizes that the police continue to investigate the matter thoroughly.
“Both individuals are in custody, and authorities have confiscated their drone equipment. Their intentions remain unclear, but ongoing investigations will seek to clarify this and determine any potential legal repercussions,” Pedersen states.
In previous incidents, authorities expelled several drone pilots from countries outside the Schengen area for conducting illegal drone flights in Norway. The police remind the public that strict regulations govern drone operations, especially near airports and in urban areas, to ensure public safety.
