An Evening of Lotus

The Embassy of Denmark and Vietnam’s Ministry of Culture and Information hosted a grand gala evening in Hanoi on December 8th 2006 called “Evening of Lotus”, to celebrate the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Denmark.
The outstanding performances from prominent Danish and Vietnamese artists reflected the close and successful relations between the two countries which established at a time when Vietnam faced the rough war for its national defence and with Danish development assistance program had made Denmark one of Vietnam’s biggest bilateral donors and co-operation until now.
The gala evening started with the grand opening scene of the Vietnamese drum group, Sonx, whose energy marked the audience impression. The Danish Swing Sisters accompanied by the Vietnamese mini-big band, Red Leaf, along with the experienced Danish bandleader, Peder Kragerup. Follow by the Vietnamese experimental Music Composer, Mr.Pham Tuan Hung and the exotic, unique traditional Vietnamese music instruments by Niels Lan Doky. The exhibition on stage of three paintings symbolizes the close relations between the two countries. Also the taste of the newest creation in Vietnam could be noticed in the modern dance performance.
As for the grand finale of the evening was the Vietnamese break dance style from Big Toe Crew, who received huge applauses from the thrilled audience. The evening of Lotus ended successfully and reached its goal of bringing people together to enjoy and celebrate the fruitful relationship between Vietnam and Denmark.
