New Swedish movie discuss globalisation, and its winner and losers. It is directed by Lukas Moodysson, who is behind international successes like ‘Fucking Åmål’, ‘Tilsammans’ and ‘Lilja 4-ever’
The movie, Mammoth, is about a successful New York couple (played by Gael García Bernal and Michelle Williams) experiencing conditions related to modern day globalization. Their eight-year-old daughter Jackie spends most of her time with her Filipino nanny Gloria, who has two children of her own, young boys staying in the Philippines with their grandmother. The older boy tries to find a job so that Gloria does not have to work abroad, but he gets hurt. Gloria is informed and quits her job right away to return to her country. During a business trip to Thailand the husband is confronted with the poor conditions of Thai prostitutes, at first he is repulsed and to pays them for not having sex.
