Finland helps Vietnam with forest management

On 8 March 2017 the Finnish Embassy to Vietnam organised a workshop in cooperation with the Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. The workshop took place in Ho Chi Minh City and had a focus on management and sharing of data on forests in Vietnam.

The workshop was part of the Forest Management Information Systems Project, FORMIS, which is funded by the Finnish Government.

According to the Embassy of Finland in Hanoi, opening government data brings considerable benefits to the society and economy. It generates new businesses, innovations and also results in increased tax revenues.

Finland has supported Vietnamese forestry since 1996 and has so far invested €300 million in it. Apart from the FORTIS programme, Finland also supports People Participation in improvement of forest governance and poverty alleviation in Vietnam project, PFG. Both projects focus on reducing poverty through improved management and use of forests.
