Denmark has appointed Lina Gandløse Hansen as its next ambassador to Vietnam and Laos, with the posting taking effect on 1 August.
Gandløse Hansen announced the appointment on LinkedIn, saying she was honored to take on the role after Ambassador Nicolai Prytz, who has represented Denmark in the two Southeast Asian countries in recent years.
Calling the appointment “a tremendous privilege and responsibility,” she highlighted Vietnam’s rich culture, dynamic economy and the strong bilateral ties between Denmark and Vietnam. She said she looks forward to building new partnerships and helping strengthen the diplomatic relationship from the Danish Embassy in Hanoi.
“I’m excited for what lies ahead and welcome any connections or insights from those with experience in Vietnam or the broader Southeast Asian region,” she wrote.
Gandløse Hansen brings extensive experience in diplomacy, trade and international business to the position. She currently serves as Denmark’s State Secretary for Trade & Investment at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where she has overseen Denmark’s international trade and investment efforts.
Before becoming State Secretary, she held several senior positions at the ministry, including Head of Department. Her overseas experience includes postings as Consul General in Munich and trade assignments at the Danish embassies in Washington and Paris. She has also completed executive education at Harvard Business School.
She takes up the ambassadorial role at a time when Denmark and Vietnam continue to deepen cooperation in areas such as green transition, renewable energy, trade, maritime affairs and sustainable development.
As ambassador, she will also be responsible for Denmark’s diplomatic relations with neighbouring Laos.
