On October 21, 2024, the National Police Office arrested two Swedish nationals in Pattaya during a significant crackdown on transnational crime. This action aligns with the police’s renewed policy to combat illegal activities. Consequently, they directed the Immigration Bureau to intensify efforts to intercept and apprehend foreign nationals engaged in unlawful business operations.

Recently, the Immigration Investigation Division 3 apprehended members of a Swedish call center scam gang. These individuals have committed serious crimes that led to damages exceeding 50 million baht. They hid in Pattaya, prompting police to conduct a detailed investigation. Officers identified a suspicious foreigner outside a condominium in Bang Lamung District, which raised further concerns.

When the officers identified themselves as immigration police, they promptly requested to inspect the individual’s passport. They discovered Mr. John (alias), a 24-year-old Swedish national, who had overstayed his visa. Additionally, further investigation in his room led to the arrest of Mr. Vladis (alias), a 25-year-old Swedish national, who was also found to be overstaying. The authorities then took both men to Pattaya City Police Station for legal proceedings.

Moreover, Swedish authorities confirmed that Mr. John and Mr. Vladis have criminal records in Sweden for their connection to call center scams, which have caused substantial financial losses.

Ongoing efforts aim to monitor Thai and foreign nationals exhibiting inappropriate behavior. Authorities are determined to target transnational criminals who hide in Thailand or utilize the country as a base for illegal activities.

Furthermore, Thai officials remain vigilant to ensure a safer environment for both locals and visitors. In this context, collaboration among government agencies plays a crucial role in addressing the various challenges posed by transnational crime. By enhancing public safety and security throughout Thailand, these initiatives aim to protect communities from exploitation and illegal activities.
