Swedish families celebrating the autumn break in Thailand are facing an unfortunate situation as Ving has issued a warning due to a stomach bug outbreak.
Charlotte Hallencreutz from Ving’s press service stated, “It is likely to be the winter vomiting disease.” Several Swedish families have fallen ill with stomach issues at at least one hotel in Phuket.
One family of five from Sweden, who contacted Aftonbladet, reported that nearly all members suffered from severe stomach illnesses. “We are on our autumn holiday, and our children are school-aged. One by one, we have fallen ill, and we have had to cancel all our outings. It’s disappointing, especially given the high cost of the trip,” said the father.
In a text message to travelers in the Phuket area, Ving warned, “Dear guests, we are currently experiencing an increased incidence of stomach illness. Doctors confirm that this issue affects the entire area, even outside the hotel.” The message also urged guests to practice extra hygiene and noted that hotels are implementing additional cleaning measures.
“It feels serious when staff start scrubbing down the doors. I meet people who say their children are unwell; it seems like every other family is sick,” said one traveler speaking to Aftonbladet.
Ving confirmed to Aftonbladet that it is likely a case of the norovirus, commonly associated with stomach illness outbreaks. “Samples from food and pools have shown no results, but it probably is the winter vomiting disease,” Hallencreutz added.
As the situation develops, travelers are advised to remain vigilant and prioritize hygiene practices to help prevent further illness while enjoying their holiday in Thailand.
