A new methanol-ready offshore vessel built in Vietnam has begun its journey to Norway.
Norwegian shipping company Rem Offshore announced that its second Energy Subsea Construction Vessel (ESCV), REM Ocean, was delivered from the Song Cam shipyard near Hai Phong on June 15.
The vessel departed Vietnam on June 17 and is being towed via Singapore before continuing to Norway, where it will undergo final outfitting at Myklebust Verft.
Once completed in 2027, REM Ocean will begin an eight-year contract with DeepOcean, providing subsea inspection, maintenance and repair services for Equinor.
According to Rem Offshore, the vessel is designed to support lower-emission offshore operations. It will be equipped with dual-fuel engines capable of running on bio-methanol and biodiesel, alongside battery energy storage and regenerative energy systems.
The 111.7-metre vessel will also feature advanced digital inspection technology, including an autonomous inspection drone for subsea operations.
“The scope of work has been completed to a very high shipbuilding standard,” said Kristian Stavset, Head of Projects at Rem Offshore, describing the hull as one of the finest delivered to Norway’s Sunnmøre maritime cluster.
