Swedish travellers can now enter China without a visa, following Beijing’s decision to add Sweden to its expanding list of visa-exempt countries. The policy, announced by the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is effective from 10 November 2025 and runs until 31 December 2026.
Other Nordic nationals have already been eligible under the same scheme. Denmark, Finland, Iceland and Norway are included among the countries whose citizens may visit China visa-free for up to 30 days for tourism, business, family visits or transit. Sweden is the latest Nordic country to join the list.
According to the Ministry’s consular affairs department, China has extended its visa-free entry scheme for a total of 45 countries. The programme now covers 32 European states, alongside Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea and several countries in South America and the Gulf region. The policy had previously been set to expire at the end of this year for many of the participating nations.
China has expanded visa-free access in recent years in an effort to attract international visitors, support the recovery of its tourism sector after the pandemic and strengthen global engagement. Under the policy, travellers from eligible countries may stay in China for up to 30 days without applying for a visa.
The United States, Canada and the United Kingdom are not part of the programme.
